Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Issues Strategic Enforcement Plan for 2013 – 2016

By /

The EEOC has issued its Strategic Enforcement Plan (SEP) for 2013-2016. Employers should be aware of the enforcement priorities contained therein:

  • Eliminating Hiring Barriers
  • Protecting  Vulnerable Workers: this includes immigrants, migrants, LGBT employees, ADA eligible employees and pregnant employees
  • Enforcing Equal Pay Laws
  • Preserving Access to the Legal System
  • Preventing Harassment

The SEP provides further guidance as to how these priorities will be approached. Employers should expect issuance of more guidelines and pay serious attention to them, particularly in the above areas. Employers may wish to review and update their handbooks and policies to ensure that these areas are properly covered and that the policies are being followed.
