Professional Experience
Makenzie focuses her practice on real property and land use litigation, representing developers, property managers, boards, and a range of corporate and individual clients in disputes involving property rights, land use entitlements, contract enforcement, and regulatory compliance. She has substantial courtroom experience in state and federal court; handling matters from pre-litigation through trial. She also brings extensive experience navigating administrative proceedings under the APA, and advocating before local land use boards, planning commissions, and similar regulatory bodies. While prepared to litigate aggressively when circumstances demand it, Makenzie prides herself on her ability to deescalate conflicts and find common-sense solutions that avoid protracted battles and prioritizes efficient outcomes that serve her clients’ broader business objectives.
Beyond litigation, Makenzie draws on a strong transactional background in purchase and sale agreements, commercial and residential leases, and licensing arrangements. This dual perspective allows her to take a holistic view of her clients’ legal needs, anticipate issues before they escalate, and structure deals with an eye toward avoiding future disputes. She is known for crafting creative, practical solutions that keep her clients’ projects and business operations on track.
Before joining Helsell Fetterman, Makenzie practiced in Bend, Oregon, where she developed broad experience across various corporate and real estate matters. A lifelong Pacific Northwesterner, she earned both her Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon. Outside the office, Makenzie is an avid sports fan, scuba diver, and traveler.
