Fighting to protect the public interest has long been a tradition at Helsell Fetterman. We have represented communities, public interest groups and individuals in their battles to protect their rights and maintain the public trust.
For example:
Recently, we obtained a unanimous decision from the Washington Supreme Court in favor of a class of Seattle City Light ratepayers, holding that the City of Seattle had wrongfully diverted funds for non-City Light uses. Our work on this matter resulted in the return of tens of millions of dollars to City Light ratepayers.
We led a community fight to mitigate the environmental effects from the construction of a third runway at Seattle Tacoma International Airport.
We took Sound Transit to the Washington Supreme Court on behalf of a bi-partisan group of civic leaders who believed that public funds were being improperly collected and spent without a public vote.
When a group of same-sex couples brought a highly publicized challenge to the law that barred them from marrying, it was one of our attorneys who successfully argued their case in court.
When graduate students at the University of Washington fought to recover taxes improperly withheld from their teaching assistant wages, they came to us for representation.
