REMINDER: Employers Must Use New I-9 Form Beginning January 22, 2017

By /

As you know, employers must complete a Form I-9 for every new employee hired after November 6, 1986.  If you haven’t switched to the I-9 Form dated 11/14/16 yet, NOW is the time to do so.  Starting January 22, 2017, USCIS will only accept the 11/14/16 edition. Until then, you can use the 03/08/13 edition, but feel free to switch now so you don’t get surprised by how fast time can fly when you’re doing great HR work!

If you’re wondering which version if the I-9 you are using, take a look at the edition date at the bottom of the page on the I-9 Form and Instructions. If it doesn’t say 11/14/16, then follow this link and you will find the latest version:  https://www.uscis.gov/i-9

And as always, if you have questions about I-9s or any aspect of hiring or document retention, don’t hesitate to contact an experienced employment attorney at Helsell Fetterman
